What this tool does

Plan a course result when completed assessments and the remaining final exam have different percentage weights.

How to use it

  1. Enter up to four completed scores and their course weights.
  2. Enter the remaining final weight and desired overall grade.
  3. Check the current weighted average and required final score.

Formula and method

Weighted points equal each score times its weight. Required final score = (target grade − completed weighted points) ÷ final weight; all weights must total exactly 100%.

Example

Scores of 80 at 40% and 90 at 30% contribute 59 points. With a 30% final, an 85 target requires about 86.67 on the final.

Useful for

  • Planning a final-exam target
  • Checking weighted course progress
  • Comparing realistic grade goals

Limits and notes

The planner does not know institutional rounding, dropped assessments, curves, extra credit or minimum-final rules. Enter the exact weights from the syllabus and confirm official results with the institution.

Frequently asked questions

Why must the weights total 100%?

The calculation models the complete course, so completed work plus the remaining final must cover the whole grade.

What if the required score is over 100?

The target is not reachable under the entered weights unless extra credit or another rule changes the course calculation.
