What this tool does
Generates an integer, picks one list item, shuffles a list, or distributes shuffled items across teams using browser random values.
How to use it
- Choose number, pick, shuffle or teams.
- Enter an inclusive integer range or one non-empty item per line and a valid team count.
- Generate and record the result if the draw needs an audit trail.
Method
Numbers are selected from minimum through maximum, inclusive. List modes trim blank lines. Shuffle uses a Fisher–Yates-style pass, and team mode deals the shuffled items round-robin so team sizes differ by at most one.
Worked example
With items Alice, Bob, Charlie and Dana and two teams, all four names are shuffled and dealt alternately, producing two teams of two. A new run can produce another valid grouping.
Common uses
- Drawing a name
- Randomizing an order
- Creating roughly equal-size teams
Limitations
Browser randomness does not make a process legally auditable, bias-free in its input list, or suitable for regulated lotteries. Duplicate lines remain duplicate entries and therefore get multiple chances. Team assignment balances counts, not skill or preference. Save the inputs and result separately if reproducibility matters.
FAQ
Are minimum and maximum included?
Yes. Integer mode can return either boundary as well as values between them.
Will teams have equal skill?
No. They are balanced only by number of entered items, after random shuffling.
